Maharashtra Politics: Sharad Pawar Optimistic Uddhav Won’t Quit MVA Despite Thackeray's Solo Hints

As the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is working on sharing various legislative committees – a process currently underway – Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray is deliberating with his colleagues on whether to withdraw from the alliance. However, NCP chief Sharad Pawar expressed confidence that the Shiv Sena would remain part of the MVA.

Speaking to the media in Kolhapur, Pawar voiced hope that Thackeray would not take any steps against the coalition. His remarks followed Thackeray’s statement during a rally at the Andheri Sports Complex on Thursday, where he hinted at the possibility of contesting local body elections independently. While Thackeray stopped short of making an official announcement, he urged his district chiefs to assess their readiness, indicating that their input would guide his decision on whether to contest the polls alone.

Pawar said that even if Thackeray has spoken about going solo, the MVA constituents believe the issue should be resolved amicably among allies.

The statement by the octogenarian politician holds significance in light of his recent meeting with Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee chief Nana Patole in Pune. It is believed that during the meeting, Patole discussed potential scenarios should the Sena decide to part ways with the MVA. Meanwhile, under the current circumstances, the Congress leadership in Delhi appears to be treading cautiously, keeping a close watch on the developments in Maharashtra.

“Two days ago, Thackeray had a detailed discussion with me on the issue of contesting upcoming local body elections independently. Though he dropped some hints during the party rally, I do not think he will take such a stand,” said Pawar.

Commenting on the rallies addressed by Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at Andheri and the BKC respectively, Pawar said if the attendance is considered, the rally addressed by Thackeray appeared to have received good response.

Meanwhile, commenting on the Shiv Sena’s move to go solo, Patole said, “If Thackeray has decided on it, we welcome his stand.”
