Kolhapur police have filed a case against a journalist for allegedly threatening historian Indrajeet Sawant, making insulting remarks about revered figures, and attempting to incite communal tension. The journalist has denied the charges, claiming his voice sample was morphed.
In a post on social media platform 'X,' Sawant accused Prashant Koratkar of threatening him over his comments about the movie Chhaava. According to Sawant, the statements by the media persons were based on caste lines and referred to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in derogatory terms.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reportedly directed Kolhapur police to take action. Sawant’s statement was recorded.
According to reports, the Nagpur police cyber cell has requested the audio clip from Sawant. “I have shared details of the phone call with the police. I am not bothered about the threats against me but am deeply troubled by the derogatory language used for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj,” Sawant stated.
Koratkar, however, denied making the call, “I have no connection with the historian. He should have contacted me before naming me,” Koratkar said. He added that he plans to file a complaint against Sawant.
