Badnawar (Madhya Pradesh): The residents of Badnawar faced a distressing situation on Friday evening as thick smoke from burning garbage enveloped the area around the Balwanti River. Starting around 6 pm, the smoke gradually intensified, spreading to nearby colonies and affecting the air quality until approximately 10 pm.
Many residents, including those with respiratory issues, struggled to breathe as the acrid smoke permeated their homes and the streets. The source of the smoke was the burning of garbage collected daily from various locations, including the bus stand and old court premises.
This practice has become a significant health concern, particularly during the winter when cold air traps pollutants closer to the ground, exacerbating conditions for asthma patients and others with respiratory ailments.
