Holkar Stadium was once the home ground for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). From 2011 to 2018, the stadium hosted eight IPL matches. However, in 2018, the franchise distanced itself from Indore due to a controversy over free passes.
Punjab Kings' co-owner, Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, had expressed strong dissatisfaction over the issue. She accused Indore’s administration and police of causing trouble regarding ticket passes. Since then, no IPL franchise has chosen Indore as a venue.
