Government School Students Allege Harassment, Caste Discrimination; Hold Rally In MP's Dhar

Sardarpur (Madhya Pradesh): Students of Government Model School, Sardarpur, took out a rally on Friday and submitted a memorandum alleging caste discrimination and harassment by a teacher. They demanded her transfer from the school.

The students marched to the SDM office and submitted the memorandum, addressed to District Collector Rajiv Ranjan Meena, to SDM Ajmer Singh Goud. Around 800 students from Classes six to 12 study at the school.

In the memorandum, students alleged that Hindi literature teacher Pratima Singh Kushwaha behaved inappropriately with them and made objectionable remarks against Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students. They also alleged discrimination based on complexion.

The students further claimed that Kushwaha frequently arrived late, sent students out of classrooms without valid reasons and took medical leave on several occasions to engage in other activities.

They alleged that her conduct had created an atmosphere of fear and affected their studies.

Students said the school should provide a fear-free environment and equal treatment. They claimed they were afraid of facing biased treatment or harassment if they raised their concerns openly.

They demanded that Kushwaha be transferred from the Model School and said they would protest through democratic means with their parents if their demand was not addressed.

Goud said the memorandum concerning the students' grievances had been received and would be forwarded to the District Collector for further action.

In a separate memorandum, students sought an impartial inquiry into allegations against Principal Kameshwar Satpura, claiming his reputation was being unnecessarily damaged. They demanded action against anyone found responsible following the inquiry.
