West Bengal Transfers ₹6,000 Crore To 10.20 Lakh Rural Housing Beneficiaries, Renames Scheme As 'Paschim Banga Awas'

Kolkata: Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday had distributed the second installment of the rural housing scheme.

The state government had transferred over Rs 6,000 crore directly into the bank accounts of more than 10.20 lakh rural housing beneficiaries.

“All eligible applicants would be covered in subsequent phases after verification and availability of funds. The name of this housing scheme was kept as ‘Banglar Bari’ by the previous government and used to claim that it was started by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government. The name of this scheme will be ‘Paschim Banga Awas’ from now on,” said Adhikari.

The West Bengal Chief Minister had also mentioned that Union minister Shivraj Singha Chouhan had asked the state government to find land for more houses.

Adhikari had also urged the beneficiaries to complete the construction and to avail other subsidies under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana and employment opportunities under the Centre’s rural employment programme.

State Panchayat Minister Dilip Ghosh also assured that all genuine beneficiaries will be getting money under the housing scheme.

Earlier this day, Adhikari at Milan Mela ground announced that the central government is keen on investing to develop the tea, textile sector in Bengal.

“When I was in Delhi I met Nirmala Sitharaman and had a discussion with her. She said that she had interest in two sectors in Bengal. First is the tea sector and the other is textile. We should do something for the tea garden workers. At least 25 tea gardens are lying closed,” stated Adhikari assuring that ‘corruption’, ‘syndicate rule’ and ‘cut money’ system will be wiped out completely from Bengal.

Adhikari also announced that on August 10, the state government will hold ‘Tiranga Yatra’ across the state and almost 70 lakh national flags will be distributed.

“I will do the Tiranga Yatra at Bhawanipur on August 7 as I am the MLA there. In our cabinet meeting we discussed land issues as we have to give more land to the BSF and also about a special Assembly session that will take place on August 12,” mentioned the Chief Minister.
