West Bengal: Government Employee Stabs Colleagues And Roams Around With Knife Over Denied Leave
On February 6, West Bengal Police reported that Amit Kumar Sarkar, a government employee, stabbed four coworkers over a leave dispute. He was seen walking with a bloodied knife in Kolkata, prompting bystanders to record him.

Kolkata: On Thursday, February 6, West Bengal Police authorities reported that a government employee from West Bengal stabbed a minimum of four coworkers due to an alleged denial of leave. The individual charged, known as Amit Kumar Sarkar, was employed in the technical education sector at Karigari Bhavan located in Kolkata's Newtown region.
Sarkar stabbed his coworkers with a knife and then roamed the city armed with it. A video emerged showing him walking through the city with a knife covered in blood, where he is seen casually strolling in broad daylight with a bag slung over his shoulder and another in hand. Certain bystanders are observed recording the accused on their phones, while Sarkar cautions them to stay away from him.
"Sarkar, a resident of Ghola in Sodepur, North 24 Parganas district, works in the technical education department. This morning, following a tiff with his colleagues over taking time off, he attacked them with a knife and then tried to flee," a senior police official said.
The victims, recognized as Jaydeb Chakraborty, Santunu Saha, Sartha Late, and Sheikh Satabul, were transported to a local hospital for medical care. It is reported that two of them are in critical condition.

Officials stated that the suspect has been apprehended and additional inquiries are in progress. Authorities also believe the individual had mental health concerns.
