Kolkata: Despite a fund freeze by the central government, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced the release of the first instalment of a housing scheme from West Bengal government’s fund.
Talking to the media, Mamata said that despite the visit of 74 central teams the central funds are not released.
“The central government is saying that they have received few complaints. They have sent teams for verification. Even then the money is not released for the past three years. Since the money is being given for the housing scheme by the state government for which we are calling it Banglar Bari scheme. The first instalment of Rs. 60000 will reach the bank accounts of the beneficiaries,” said Mamata.
Notably, the scheme will provide Rs 1,20,000 to 12 lakh eligible families in two phases. The state administration carried out surveys and identified 28 lakh eligible families. In the first phase, 12 lakh families were selected, while the remaining 16 lakh families will receive Rs 1.2 lakh each by 2026.
“We are asking for our legitimate rights but we are being denied. They (Central government) takes revenue from our state but refuses to give back our share,” further added the West Bengal Chief Minister.
