Lucknow: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation is set to tackle the issue of stray animals by establishing a dog shelter home and utilizing AI-powered cameras to identify and capture stray animals. The Mayor announced this initiative, along with the impending launch of a new system for segregating household waste.
To address traffic congestion, the Municipal Corporation will deploy cranes to tow illegally parked vehicles. This enforcement, carrying a penalty, will commence within 20 days and will be managed by an outsourced agency. Areas like Hazratganj, Gomti Nagar, Charbagh, and Mahanagar will see action against vehicles in "no-parking" zones. The current fine of ₹1200 is also under review for an increase.
The Mayor also shared insights from a recent seminar in Gurugram, where Lucknow's representatives studied models from four other cities. Best practices from Indore, Visakhapatnam, Surat, and Pune will be implemented in Lucknow following necessary discussions.
These include systems for door-to-door waste collection, mechanical street sweeping, operation of bio CNG plants from wet waste, online municipal services, free bicycle and e auto rides, heritage preservation, and the use of AI cameras for detecting street littering.
Additionally, a city wide cleanliness drive is scheduled for July 10, coinciding with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh's birthday. Zonal officers will oversee this campaign from 6 AM to 8 AM, aiming to present a clean city as a gift. The city also plans to install a waste to energy plant within the next six months.
