Lucknow: Auto rickshaws, tempos, and e-rickshaws in Lucknow will soon display QR codes under the newly launched Project Safe Ride, jointly initiated by the city’s traffic police and transport department. Once scanned, these codes will reveal key details of the driver, including name, address, and mobile number, enhancing passenger safety and accountability.
QR Codes Will Display Driver Details for Transparency
According to DCP Traffic Kamlesh Dixit, all drivers must complete online registration at www.lucknowpolice.up.gov.in/erickshaw by August 31. The verification process will cross-check identity documents, driving license, fitness certificate, and character certificate. Approved drivers will receive a QR code to affix on their vehicle. ADCP Traffic Ashok Kumar added that drivers or owners with pending criminal cases will be disqualified.
Seizure from September 1 for Non-Compliance
The system also aims to curb illegal e-rickshaws operating without proper documentation. From September 1, enforcement teams will begin on-ground inspections. Vehicles without a visible QR code will face seizure. Drivers must also adhere to a prescribed dress code.
