UP: Controversial Cop Anuj Chaudhary Visits Premanand Baba After Promotion As ASP, Seeks Advice On Criminal Case - Video

Uttar Pradesh's controversial police officer Anju Kumar Chaudhary, who was recently promoted to Provincial Civil Service (PCS) rank through the sports quota, visited the famous Premanand Baba of Vrindavan after being appointed as Sambhal's Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

A video of Anuj, who became UP's first PCS officer through the sports quota route, has gone viral on social media from Baba Premanand's ashram.

In the video, Anuj seeks Baba's advice on how to deal with a tricky situation relating to a criminal case where one person accused another of murder with full conviction, while the accused was saying he had not committed the crime. "In the absence of evidence, should the accused be let go?" he asks.

Then Baba explains to him that the accused cannot be released as a complaint has been filed against him.

"Even if the accused is innocent, he should be arrested," says Baba, adding "Yeh uska prarabdh hai" (This is his fate).

Though he has not committed any crime this time, he is being punished for his "gupt paap" (secret sin).

The Baba further explains that he will suffer until the time he gets purged of his old sins.

This video has been doing the rounds on social media, drawing mixed reactions from users.

Criticising the police officer, one user wrote: "Officers who do not work with their own discretion should seek the support of some baba. Their promotion should not be done, but demotion. Now what does a baba know about the law book? God bless the state."

Another user hit out at Anuj Chaudhary for his mentality and said: "Either this person is doing this for their own fame, or they are completely a follower of Manu! If a person who has received training from the police and the constitution needs to discuss an issue, there are hundreds of officers and advisers in their department. What is the need for them to seek refuge with babas?"

A third user demanded the immediate suspension of the police officer, saying: "He should be immediately suspended; there is no place for religion or caste in the position he holds."

However, some users defended the police officer for seeking advice from a saint. One user said: "There is a difference between hypocrisy and the wisdom of a guru. And no age or position comes in the way of gaining knowledge."

Anuj Chaudhary gained fame last year with his controversial statement where he said "Holi comes once a year and Jumma comes 52 times," while advising the Muslim community not to step out of their homes if they had issues with Holi colours. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has endorsed his statement.
