Lucknow: A municipal corporation sweeper was allegedly assaulted in Lucknow's Indira Nagar following a dispute with a local resident over garbage collection. The incident led to a protest by sanitation workers demanding swift action against the accused.
A video of the sanitation worker narrating the ordeal surfaced online. In the clip, he claims that after he rang the doorbell to collect garbage, the resident stepped outside and attacked him with an iron rod and later went on to hit him with a sword. Have a look:
Dispute Over Garbage Collection
According to reports, the victim, identified as Deepu, was on duty when he got into an argument with an individual over garbage collection. The argument escalated when a disagreement arose regarding the removal of a vehicle, eventually leading to a physical altercation. Deepu was allegedly attacked with an iron rod. The assault left him injured, prompting fellow municipal workers to intervene and report the incident.
In response to the attack, a large number of municipal employees gathered at the Ghazipur police station, demanding justice for their colleague.
Police Intervene, Investigation Underway
Zonal Officer Akash Kumar arrived at the scene as soon as he was informed about the incident. He assured the workers that their concerns would be addressed and that necessary steps would be taken to ensure their safety.
Meanwhile, the police acknowledged the incident and took to Twitter to address the matter after a video of the attack surfaced online.
"Necessary action is being taken by Ghazipur Police Station," the tweet read, indicating that an investigation was underway.
