Bengaluru: Amid a power tussle in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is likely to tender his resignation on Thursday, May 28, at 11 am. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is widely seen as the frontrunner to succeed him.
The Chief Minister's Office confirmed that Siddaramaiah has sought an appointment with Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot for May 28. Reportedly, Siddaramaiah could submit his resignation during the meeting with the Governor, according to an India Today report.
Breakfast meeting with cabinet
Siddaramaiah is also expected to host a breakfast meeting for the entire Karnataka cabinet at his Bengaluru residence on Thursday morning.
Congress general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala is also scheduled to arrive in Bengaluru on Thursday and is likely to hold consultations with senior party leaders in the state.
Oath ceremony likely on Saturday
The oath-taking ceremony for a new Chief Minister is likely to take place on Saturday, May 30, according to a CNN-News18 report.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior party leader Rahul Gandhi had asked Siddaramaiah to step down to facilitate Shivakumar's elevation as Chief Minister, according to the report.
