Led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, political leaders from Maharashtra on Sunday mourned the death of Lata Mangeshkar, saying the singing legend was an artiste "born but once in centuries".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, ‘’ Lata didi has left for the heavenly abode. This ends the marvellous and melodious era in the Indian Movie Industry. Her soulful voice reverberated across the nation and won million hearts in the country.’’ ‘’I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had unparalleled ability to mesmerise people,’’ he added.

Expressing grief over Lata Mangeshkar’s death, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said the news has left him heart broken. ‘’With the demise of Lata Didi, a great era came to an end. We have lost our motherly blessings,’’ he noted.

NCP Chief Sharad Pawar said, ‘’Today, the supernatural voice that satisfies the ears of millions of music lovers around the world has disappeared. This voice will continue to resonate in our minds for eternity through the songs immortalized by the touch of Latadidi's voice. A heartfelt tribute to Empress Lata Mangeshkar!’’

Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis said, ‘’By the demise of Bharat Ratna Lata Didi Mangeshkar, India not only has lost a voice, but the soul of India music. Good took back its beautiful gift to all of us. We lost the Goddess of Indian music. Hard to believe she is not with us. We have lost an integral part of our life.’’

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in his reaction said, ‘’The demise of Bharat Ratna and Maharashtra Bhushan Lata Mangeshkar, who ruled the hearts of millions of fans for more than eight decades with her melodious songs, is a great loss to Maharashtra and the country. A heartfelt tribute to Latadidi!’’

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut observed with the demise of Lata Mangeshkar an end of an era.

Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat said, ‘’The news of the demise of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar is very painful. She enchanted audiences around the world with her divine voice. Even though Latadidi has passed through her body, she has become immortal with her melodious voice.’’

Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe noted, ‘’Bharat Ratna Latsatai Mangeshkar dedicated her life to music and reached the pinnacle of her success by working very hard. She had unwavering devotion to the country and God.’’

Public Work Minister Ashok Chavan said, ‘’ Passing away of veteran singer Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar is an inconsolable loss for the music world. Lata Didi will always be with us in the form of her voice and her smile. May her soul rest in peace.
