Karnataka Assembly Polls to be held on May 10; results on May 13 |

The Election Commission of India on Wednesday, March 29 announced that Karnataka Assembly polls will be held on May 10 date. The result will be announced on May 13. The elections will be held in one phase.

The last date of filing nominations is April 21.

The ECI announced the schedule in a press conference held in Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhavan. "The term of the 224-member Karnataka legislative assembly will end on May 24, 2023. The process has to be completed before that," Chief Electoral Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said during the conference.

Rajiv Kumar said that there are 5.21 crore eligible voters in the state. He also said that for the first time, vote from home will be introduced for 80+ citizens in the state. He also spoke about reaching out to youth.

The CEC said that the Model Code of Conduct is applicable from today in the state.

Political parties in the fray, their candidates for upcoming polls

The three top political parties in the fray are Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress and Janata Dal (Secular).

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had earlier said that will release their list of candidates after the announcement of poll schedule. Meanwhile, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have released their lists.

Break up of MLAs in Assembly

The Assembly currently has 119 MLAs of the ruling BJP, 75 of Congress and 28 of its ally JD(S).
