The minimum temperature is expected to fall to 8 degrees Celsius, prompting the IMD to issue a Yellow Alert for the area.
Dense to very dense fog is anticipated in several regions of Punjab and Haryana as well. According to the weather department, cold waves and snowfall are affecting many parts of India, resulting in a significant drop in temperatures and visibility levels dropping to zero in some areas, including Delhi-NCR.
Heavy snowfall in mountainous region
Heavy snowfall has been observed in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the districts of Bandipora, Baramulla, Kupwara, Budgam, and Ganderbal. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold wave conditions are expected to persist for the next week. Night temperatures in Gulmarg have dropped as low as -10 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand is also experiencing cold wave conditions, with many areas blanketed in dense fog, particularly in regions such as Haridwar and Haldwani.
Weather conditions in other regions
The weather department has predicted extremely cold temperatures in several districts of Uttar Pradesh on January 7 and issued a warning about possible hailstorms. Cold wave conditions and dense fog are also affecting Odisha. The news agency ANI shared a video from Mayurbhanj on X, stating, "Cold wave and a dense layer of fog engulf Mayurbhanj as the temperature dips in the city."
Additionally, the weather department has issued warnings for states like Rajasthan, where temperatures in Kumbhalgarh, Rajsamand, have dropped to 4 degrees Celsius.
