Chhattisgarh: Man gifts ex-girlfriend home theatre rigged with explosives as wedding gift, 4 including groom dead; accused arrested

Raipur: A home theatre received in the form of a marriage gift, just a day after the wedding, exploded and led to the death of two brothers in Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh on Monday. Four persons of a family also injured in the blast.

The home theatre was rigged with explosives, and was a gift from the ex-boyfriend of the bride, police investigation has found. The accused has been arrested.

The intensity of the explosion was so big that it blew off the roof and the wall crumbled. In no time, the house turned into debris. The sound of the explosion was heard from far distance.

Accused was explosives expert

The accused was an explosive expert as he worked in the explosives department in Madhya Pradesh, the police revealed.

How the tragic incident unfolded

Locals informed that Hemendra Meravi, a resident of Chamari village Kawardha, got married two days ago with a girl from Anjana village. While the family members were unpacking the marriage gift on Monday, someone plugged on the newly gifted home theater and the tragic incident occurred.

Just after the incident, all the injured were rushed to the hospital. While Hemendra died at the spot, his brother Rajkumar succumbed to the injuries in the hospital, the Kabirdham police said.

SP Kabirdham Lal Ummed Singh addressed a press conference in the district and informed that at the blast site police smelt the presence of explosives and carried out the investigation in the direction and finally detained key suspect brides’ boyfriend when interrogated he accepted his involvement in the murder case. 

The accused informed he was in a relationship with the girl for two years, information about the wedding date disturbed him.

Accused was insulted by groom

On the night of marriage, March 30, the accused was badly insulted by the groom, which was intolerable, as he was sulking in anger, to take revenge he fitted the Home theater with explosives and placed with marriage gift on the day of reception, Superintendent of Police Kabirdham Lal Ummed Singh mentioned while speaking to media in Kabirdham.

As the accused was familiar to the bride's family, nobody suspected him, the police said.
