CBI arrests Judge's daughter in high-profile murder case of athlete Sippy Sidhu
The central agency had called Kalyani Singh, daughter of Acting Chief Justice Sabina Singh, for questioning where she was found evasive in responses following which she was arrested

Chandigarh: Making headway in the over six-year-old high-profile case of the murder of national level shooter Sukhmanpreet Singh aka Sippy Sidhu in Chandigarh, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested the daughter of the acting chief justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, here Wednesday.
The accused Kalyani Singh, who is the daughter of justice Sabina Singh, the acting chief justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, was presented before CBI’s Special Judicial Magistrate Sukhdev Singh who remanded her in four-day CBI custody.
It may be recalled that the national-level shooter Sippy Sidhu was shot dead in Sector 27 park in Chandigarh on September 20, 2015.
According to official information, the CBI had found documentary evidence suggesting that Kalyani Singh and Sidhu were close and had a romantic relationship that had turned sour, from where the agency had begun its probe.
A .12 bore gun was reported to have been used in the crime and four bullets were fired from it, according to the CBI report.
Sidhu’s family had been accusing Kalyani, Sippy’s former girlfriend, who was the judge’s daughter, of being involved in the murder and that the motive behind the murder to the refusal of a marriage proposal.
The CBI had registered the first information report (FIR) in the killing of Sidhu case, who was also a lawyer, on April 13, 2016, on the request of the Chandigarh administration. Even though the CBI had called Kalyani Singh for questioning but she was found to be evasive in her responses following which she was now arrested, sources said.
Notably, earlier, the CBI had even filed a cancellation report before the court but it was rejected and further investigation was ordered. During the further investigation, the CBI said that the involvement of Kalyani came forth.
It may also be recalled that the CBI with an aim to gather clues, had initially announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for anybody providing a clue that could help crack the case. The central agency had also given advertisements stating that here was reason to believe that a woman was accompanying Sippy’s killer at the time of the murder and that the said woman is also being given this opportunity to come forward and contact us if she is innocent else it shall be presumed that she was a party to the offence.
According to information, in December 2021, the CBI raised the reward money to Rs 10 lakh, stating that members of the public were requested to come forward, if they have any credible information regarding the murder or any relevant information, though it did not get any.
