Lakhisarai: Two brothers were killed and four other people injured after fire was opened on a family that was returning from Chhath puja in Bihar's Lakhisarai district. The incident took place on Monday (November 20) morning. The firing was carried out by a youth named Ashish Chaudhary, who lived near the house of the victims and reportedly wanted to marry the girl upon whose family he fired, said Police.
According to reports, the incident took place in Punjabi Mohalla which falls under the Kabaiya police station of Lakhisarai district. The injured are undergoing treatment in a hospital.
Police reached the spot and is conducting further investigation.
Speaking on the case, Lakhisarai SP Pankaj Kumar said, "The shooting incident was carried out by a person named Ashish Chaudhary, who lives near the victim's house. Six people were shot in which two people died and three were seriously injured."
"The reason for the incident is that Ashish Chaudhary had a relationship with the girl of the deceased family members and Ashish wanted to marry her. But the family members were not ready. Further investigation is underway,” said the officer.
Meanwhile, the opposition BJP attacked the Bihar government over the firing incident and said that there was "lawlessness" and "Jungle Raj" in the state.
"Bihar me Jungle Raj not Nitish Raj In Lakhisarai , 6 people shot at - 2 killed ! No fear of the law is left after RJD has joined hands with Nitish because now mafia/criminals think it’s “hamari sarkar” ! Even cops are not safe leave alone common man!" said BJP Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla.
