Corona outbreak in Bihar jails as 80 inmates found positive, 37 from Beur Central Jail
The infected prisoners have been shifted to the general ward which has been declared an isolation ward while three prisoners have been admitted to the hospital.

An outbreak of Corona has been reported in different jails in Bihar as 80 inmates have been found Covid positive during RTPCR tests in the last few days. In Beur Central Jail at Patna, 37 prisoners have confirmed Corona positive cases.
Prisoners in Gaya Central Jail, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Samastipur, Gopalganj, Madhepura, Purnia and Jahanabad have also been quarantined following Corona cases in the wards.
According to the jail department officials, six doctors have been deputed in Beur Central jail. The infected prisoners have been shifted to the general ward which has been declared an isolation ward while three prisoners have been admitted to the hospital.
Ranvir Yadav, a former MLA who is undergoing life term was rushed to Nalanda Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated. Anant Singh, an RJD MLA who is also lodged in Beur jail, has requested the authorities to shift him to another jail.
Beur Jail officials said that the prisoners might have carried the virus during their appearance in different courts during the trial. They apprehended that the judicial officers, court assistants and lawyers too may be infected.
Friends and relatives of the prisoners visiting jail have been asked to follow the Covid appropriate protocols, including masks.
Beur Central Jail has capacity to accommodate 2,360 prisoners, but 4,645 prisoners are lodged here.
At Gaya, 100 km from here, a 28-year-old youth died of Covid in Magadh Medical College Hospital. A resident of the Delha locality in Gaya town, he was admitted to the hospital on June 26. This is the second death due to Covid in a week in Gaya.
