Andhra Pradesh Medical Student Declared Brain-Dead After Car Runs Over Her Outside Rajahmundry Mall

A young woman was declared brain-dead after a car allegedly ran over her outside a mall in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. According to reports, the victim, a 28-year-old medical student of a private medical college, was allegedly run over by a car following a confrontation with two drunk youths.
Confrontation before incident
The incident reportedly took place on AV Appa Rao Road under the Prakash Nagar police station limits.
According to police, two drunk youths arrived at the mall and got into an argument with security personnel over some issue.
Police suspect that the duo drove away from the mall in an agitated state, during which their car allegedly struck Priyanka, who was outside on the road. The vehicle is said to have run over her head, causing severe head injuries.
Student declared brain-dead
The injured student was immediately rushed to a hospital in Rajahmundry, where doctors provided emergency treatment. Owing to the critical nature of her injuries, she was later referred for specialised neurological care. She was subsequently declared brain-dead.

Police detain two
Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and detained two individuals in connection with the case. One of them, identified as Suravarapu Yaswanth, was allegedly behind the wheel at the time of the incident.
Further investigation is underway to determine the sequence of events leading up to the alleged hit-and-run and whether additional charges will be invoked based on the findings.
