An arrest warrant has been issued against actor-film critic Kamaal Rashid Khan in a defamation case that was filed against him by actor Manoj Bajpayee.

Bajpayee slapped a defamation case against KRK after the latter called him a "drug addict" in some of his tweets back in 2021.

The Indore district court has issued an arrest warrant against KRK and the next hearing of the case is now scheduled for May 10.

Arrest warrant against KRK

The Judicial Magistrate First Class in Indore issued an arrest warrant on Thursday against KRK and posted the next hearing for May 10, informed Bajpayee's lawyer Paresh Joshi.

Earlier, the court had issued bailable warrants against KRK for not remaining present before the court.

In his application, Bajpayee said that KRK was aware of the defamation case against him but he was not appearing in front of the court intentionally to cause delay.

On the other hand, KRK's lawyer said that the action against him should be stayed as he has moved the Supreme Court.

About the defamation case

On July 9, a defamation case under section 500 of the Indian Penal Code was filed against KRK on the direction of the Indore district court after Bajpayee's lawsuit claimed two tweets of the former on July 26 last year tarnished his image and reputation.

KRK's lawyer told court the Twitter handle from which these tweets were made had been sold by his client on October 22, 2020, and, therefore, he cannot be held liable.

Bajpayee's lawyer said the sale of the Twitter handle cannot be considered in the present stage of the trial.
