Asaram Bapu sends legal notice to Manoj Bajpayee's Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai makers, claims film damages his 'reputation & good name'

In the film, Bajpayee will be seen playing the role of high court lawyer PC Solanki who found the self-proclaimed godman guilty and got him jailed for his crimes.

Jailed self-styled godman Asaram Bapu has sent a legal notice to makers of 'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai', which stars Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role.

Rape convict Asaram Bapu stated through his lawyer that the film poses a threat to his reputation and that it hurts the sentiments of his followers.

'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai' will see Bajpayee play a lawyer, who single-handedly fights a sensational rape case of a minor under the POCSO Act.

According to a report in India Today, the self-styled godman, who is currently serving a jail term after being found guilty of raping a minor, shot a legal notice to the team of 'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai' soon after the trailer of the film was released online.

As soon as the trailer was dropped, audiences were quick to identify the uncanny resemblance between the story and Asaram Bapu's case.

In the film, Bajpayee will be seen playing the role of high court lawyer PC Solanki who found the self-proclaimed godman guilty and got him jailed for his crimes.

In the notice sent to the film's team by Asaram Bapu's lawyer, it was stated that the "film is offensive and damages their client's reputation and good name".

They also urged the court to impose restrictions on the film's release.

'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai' at New York Indian Film Festival

After the notice was sent, producer Asif Shaikh confirmed that they received the notice, but added that people will know the truth once the film hits the screens.

He added that the makers legally bought the rights to make a biopic on PC Solanki.

'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai' is set to release on Zee5 on May 13. It is also scheduled to be screened at New York Indian Film Festival.
