Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan recently opened up about the challenging and turbulent making of his 1992 cult classic Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. During one of his recent interviews, Aamir described the shoot of the film as 'most torturous'. He also revealed that the film was shot twice due to major casting issues and behind-the-scenes troubles.
During a conversation with Just Too Filmy, Aamir shared that Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar initially had a different cast, including a different actress for the role of Devika, which was ultimately played by Pooja Bedi. The film was originally shot for 60-70 days in Ooty and Kodaikanal, but after reviewing the footage, director Mansoor Khan felt that the character of Devika didn't look convincing.
"The film was shot twice. We shot for 60-70 days in Ooty and Kodaikanal. We came back, and after two months, Mansoor called me and said, 'Devika’s character is not working.' At that time, Devika was played by another actress. She was a wonderful girl and a very good actress, but Mansoor felt she did not have the natural arrogance that the role required," Aamir stated.
Since 40 per cent of the film revolved around Devika, the entire portion had to be re-shot with Pooja Bedi in the role.

Aamir further revealed that the challenges didn't stop there. The film had 'four actors who were extremely misbehaved on set', making the shooting process even more difficult.
"4 actors the aur woh bahot badtameez the (There were four other actors who were very ill-mannered). I won't take their names, but they were giving us a lot of trouble. I told Mansoor, 'If we are re-shooting 80 per cent of the film, let's remove these four as well and reshoot the entire film. I cannot tolerate them again'," he said.
As a result, except for Aamir and Mamik Singh, almost the entire cast was replaced, leading to a complete restart of production.
Despite the numerous hurdles, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar went on to become one of Bollywood's most beloved coming-of-age films, known for its memorable music, engaging storyline, and thrilling climax.
Besides Aamir and Pooja, the film starred Mamik Singh, Deepak Tijori, Kiran Zaveri, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Sooraj Thapar, Deven Bhojani, and others.
