On Wednesday, students at the government girls middle school in Gaya, Bihar, staged protests after discovering insects in their midday meal.
For the last week, students have been expressing concerns to their teachers about discovering bugs in their meals, yet they have not gotten any feedback.
Preeti Kumar, a student told IANS, "today, we were given khichdi-chokha as the midday meal. A majority of students ate the food and they also found insects in the food. I also found insects in food. Following that we have complained to the Principal but he has not said anything."
Incident reported to higher authorities
When asked for his response by IANS, Principal Satyendra Kumar stated that the school receives lunch service from the nonprofit organization Ekta Foundation. The foundation provides the prepared food to the students. He also mentioned that since now the students have discovered insects after eating their midday meal, so we have brought the incident to the attention of higher authority.
Similar incident in UP
Earlier, a video went viral about a government-run elementary school in Uttar Pradesh. As part of their midday meal, students are seen in the video receiving boiled 'dal' water. The Uttar Pradesh district of Kannauj is where this incident took place. The video also shows young students on school property carrying LPG cylinders.
