Prof. Dhirendra Pal Singh, also known as D.P. Singh has been appointed as the new Chancellor of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Prof. Singh is the former Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi.
Singh has been appointed as the Chancellor of TISS for a period of 5 years.
"In exercise of the powers conferred under Article 23.L of the Memorandum of Association (MoA) & Rules of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, the Competent Authority has approved the appointment of Prof. D. P. Singh, former Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, as the new Chancellor, TISS (deemed to be a university), Mumbai, Maharashtra," the official notification read.
According to Wikipedia, Singh has been vice-chancellor at three different universities, namely, Dr Hari Singh Gour University (2004–2008), Banaras Hindu University (2008–2011), and Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (2012–2015). He was also appointed as the director of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
In 2017, he became chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for a period of 5 years.
