Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the Maharashtra School Education Department to work in “mission mode” to bring about comprehensive and qualitative transformation in the state’s education system.
Shinde held a four-hour review meeting with School Education Minister Dada Bhuse and senior department officials at Nandanvan Bungalow in Mumbai on Saturday night. During the meeting, officials briefed him on various schemes, initiatives and the progress made by the department.
Time-bound plan for modern schools
Shinde called for a clear, comprehensive and time-bound action plan to modernise schools, strengthen teachers and ensure the holistic development of students. He said the changing aspirations of children required schools to evolve and create a modern, quality and future-ready education system.
The proposed action plan will focus on strengthening teacher training, motivation and capacity-building programmes. Education experts and experienced teachers will also be involved, while teachers demonstrating excellence and innovation will be encouraged and recognised.
Schemes to reach every student
Shinde directed officials to ensure effective and timely implementation of Central government education schemes in Maharashtra so that their benefits reach every eligible school and student.
Emphasising the importance of students’ overall well-being, he called for greater attention to regular health check-ups, nutrition, the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, and the mental and emotional health of students.
He also stressed greater participation of parents, alumni and local communities in school development. MLAs and MPs will be encouraged to adopt schools in their constituencies and contribute to their development through available funds and local resources.
Parents, alumni to support schools
The Deputy Chief Minister further announced plans to involve the corporate and industrial sectors by seeking their expertise, technology, training and other resources for modernising government schools. He will hold meetings with corporate representatives and industry leaders in the coming weeks.
Weekly review meetings will be conducted to monitor implementation, identify bottlenecks and accelerate the education reform process.
