CBSE Mandates 50 Hours Of Annual Training For All School Teachers
CBSE has made 50 hours of annual training mandatory for all teachers in affiliated schools, aligning with NEP 2020 and NPST. The training will focus on Core Values, Knowledge & Practice, and Professional Growth. In 2025, STEM Education is the key theme, with schools encouraged to hold District Level Deliberations to promote innovation.

All teachers and school administrators at affiliated schools are required to complete at least 50 hours of training annually by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). This order, released through two notifications on April 1, 2025, is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST). Notification has been released at cbse.gov.in.
As per the revised framework, half of the training hours must be completed through CBSE or government-recognised training institutes, while the remaining can be covered through in-house or local collaborative programmes.
The training is divided into three core focus areas:
Core Values and Ethics – 12 hours
Knowledge and Practice – 24 hours
Professional Growth and Development – 14 hours
In addition to structured sessions, CBSE will also count various academic and evaluative tasks—such as board exam duties, participation in CBSE conferences, digital content creation, and research work—towards CPD hours.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education has been chosen by CBSE as the primary training theme for 2025. Schools have been requested to conduct District Level Deliberations (DLDs) to facilitate interdisciplinary and inquiry-based learning in STEM subjects.
CBSE has requested Heads of Institutions to set an example, promoting a culture of ongoing professional learning and excellence in teaching practices in schools.
