Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh): A youth was booked for allegedly spreading rumour on social media, claiming demise of Madhya Pradesh Energy Pradhuman Singh Tomar. The case came to light after villagers staged a a fake funeral of the power minister cuts in Sirsaud village of the Karera Assembly constituency.

Notably, fed up by long and frequent power cuts and no resolution, angry villagers prepared a symbolic funeral procession of Energy Minister Pradhuman Singh Tomar and carried it from Ram Raja Temple on Wednesday.

The protesters reached the Sirsaud-Pichhore road, where they performed a symbolic last rites ceremony and raised slogans against the government and the electricity department.

The villagers alleged that their area had been facing long power cuts for several days. Earlier on Monday, residents had blocked the road for nearly three hours to protest the issue.

During the protest, a junior engineer of the electricity department assured them that the problem would be resolved and load shedding would be reduced.

However, villagers claimed that despite the assurance, power supply was disrupted for nearly 10 hours the same night, forcing them to stage another protest.

During Wednesday’s demonstration, villagers observed a symbolic silence and also protested by taking a bath near the village panchayat borewell motor.

They warned that the protest would be intensified if the electricity supply situation was not improved soon.

Energy Minister under treatment at Delhi hospital

Meanwhile, police action was initiated in connection with a social media post related to the protest.

Amola police station registered an FIR against a youth identified as Saurabh Bhargava for allegedly sharing a fake Facebook post about the death of Energy Minister Pradhuman Singh Tomar.

According to police, the suspect shared a post claiming that the minister had passed away and mentioning his symbolic funeral procession.

Police said the information was false, as the minister was undergoing treatment in New Delhi at that time.

A case has been registered against the suspect for allegedly spreading rumours and disturbing public peace.

Police have started investigating the social media post and said strict action would be taken against those spreading false information.

The police also appealed to people not to share any news on social media without verifying its authenticity.
