'I Was Just Talking To The President': Tiger Woods Claims Speaking To Donald Trump On Call After DUI Crash; Bodycam Footage Goes Viral |
Golf legend Tiger Woods told a police officer that he had just spoken to US President Donald Trump shortly after his DUI-related crash in Florida, according to newly surfaced bodycam footage published by TMZ on Thursday.
In the video, Woods is seen ending a phone call before approaching an officer at the crash site. “Thank you so much. All right. You got it. Bye,” he says, before adding, “I was just talking to the president.” The footage reportedly captures the immediate aftermath of the incident, offering fresh insight into Woods’ state and actions following the crash.
The development comes amid heightened scrutiny following the golfer’s arrest. The 50-year-old was charged with driving under the influence by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office after his Land Rover SUV collided with a truck’s trailer in Jupiter, Florida.
According to the arrest affidavit, Woods was found with two opioid pills in his possession and exhibited signs of impairment, including bloodshot and glassy eyes, extremely dilated pupils and excessive sweating.
The crash also drew attention due to its timing and surrounding context. Just a day earlier, Trump had stated during an appearance on Fox News’ The Five that Woods would not be participating in the upcoming Masters tournament. This contradicted Woods’ earlier public stance, in which he had left open the possibility of competing and had not formally withdrawn prior to the accident.
Tiger Woods' Connection With Trump
Trump, who later described Woods as a very close friend, expressed concern following the incident. “I feel so badly. He’s got some difficulty. There was an accident, and that’s all I know,” he told reporters, while also calling Woods an amazing person. Adding a personal dimension to the story, Woods is currently in a relationship with Vanessa Trump, Trump’s former daughter-in-law.
In a statement issued earlier this week, Woods announced he would be stepping away from professional commitments to focus on his health. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health,” he said, stressing the need to prioritise recovery. Woods has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The White House has not commented on the bodycam footage.
