Explosion At Russian Consulate In France's Marseille, Moscow Terms It 'Terrorist Attack' (VIDEO)

An explosion was reported on the premises of Russian Consulate in France's Marseille on Monday. The development was confirmed by Russian foreign ministry. Russia termed it a 'terrorist attack'.

The consulate is located on Avenue Ambroise-Pare. The explosion coincided with the third anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine war. According to reports, the blast took place inside the Russian consulate.

There are no reports of any injuries or casualties due to the blast. It was reported that unidentified persons hurled two incendiary devices into the consulate's garden. Authorities also reportedly found a stolen car near the spot.

"The explosions on the territory of the Russian Consulate General in Marseille have all the hallmarks of a terrorist attack. We demand that the country accrediting them take comprehensive and prompt measures to investigate, as well as steps to strengthen the security of Russian foreign missions," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told state-owned TASS news agency.

The entire area has been cordoned off. Fire fighters and law enforcement officials have reportedly reached the spot.

Notably, France is a supporter of Ukraine in the war against Russia. Recently, the European Union's recent announcement of its 16th package of sanctions against Moscow.

In February 2022, Russia launched the military operation against Ukraine.
