Russia mocked the fallout between US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, offering to negotiate peace talks between the two and offer asylum to the tech billionaire. Deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council Dimitry Medvedev waded into the feud.
Mocking Trump and Musk, Medvedev in an X post said, "We are ready to facilitate the conclusion of a peace deal between D and E for a reasonable fee and to accept Starlink shares as payment." Medvedev is Russia's former President and Prime Minister. He is also a close aide of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Don’t fight, guys!" he added. In reply, the Tesla CEO posted a laughing emoji.
Meanwhile, Dmitry Novikov, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, offered asylum to Musk. "I think that Musk has a completely different game, [so] he will not need any political asylum, although if he did, Russia, of course, could provide it," Novikov told state news agency Tass.
Russia's Senator Dmitry Rogozin also echoed Novikov's remarks. "Elon, don't be upset! If you encounter insurmountable problems in the US, come to us and become one of us," Rogozin said in an X post.
"Here you will find reliable comrades and complete freedom of technical creativity," he added.
Notably, the feud between the tech billionaire and the US president surfaced on Thursday after Trump cancelled a rule made during Joe Biden’s time that supported electric vehicles (EVs). Reacting to Trump's move, Musk said the new bill is bad for the environment and unfair. The Tesla CEO called the bill “Big Ugly Bill” instead of Trump’s name for it, “Big Beautiful Bill.”
After that war of words broke out between the two on X. Musk claimed that Trump was named in the suppressed Jeffrey Epstein files, triggering a political storm in the US.
For the unversed, Musk and Trump were seen as good friends during the 2024 US elections. Musk openly supported Trump at that time.
Last week, Musk left his government role as a top advisor to US President Donald Trump after spearheading efforts to reduce and overhaul the federal bureaucracy. For honouring his work at DOGE, the US President gifted the tech billionaire a golden key during an event at the White House.
