Washington: The California State Assembly adopted a resolution recognising November 8 as Diwali Day and urged citizens of the state to take part in the celebration.
The resolution, moved by assembly members Darshana Patel and Ash Kalra, also expresses deepest respect for Indian Americans and the Indian diaspora in California and throughout the world on this prominent occasion.

The resolution said Diwali is celebrated in abundantly diverse ways that represent the triumph of good over evil, connecting to themes of liberation from negativity, encouragement to overcome struggles, embracing positivity and humility, and upholding kindness despite personal challenges.
“For those who celebrate, Diwali is a time to commit to knowledge, growth, and happiness; it is a time to reflect, signifying the importance of wisdom, kindness, and transformation,” the resolution read.
