16 Assam Police Officers Misled By Google Maps Enter Nagaland, Get Attacked By Locals

Another incident of GPS navigation gone wrong has made the headlines. This time, it took place with Assam Police officers who were driving towards a location using Google Maps. The app initially indicated the spot to be within the state limits but later made them drive into Nagaland.

Wrong GPS misleads 16 Assam Police officers to Nagaland

A team of 16 cops were on a raid when the directions on Google Maps, the app they used for navigation, mislead them. Due to the confusion created by the GPS, the police officials ended up in Nagaland's Mokokchung district, fetching trouble for themselves.

The incident took place with the Jorhat District Police on Tuesday night.

Cops attacked by locals

While the cops were in pursuit of a criminal, whom they aimed to nab from a tea garden area in 'Assam', they were held captive by locals. The Assam Police officers were detained by the people of Nagaland after they spotted them with sophisticated arms. Reportedly, the locals also attacked the cops, whom they perceived to be some miscreants, leaving one of the personnel injured.

The map showed the location in the state itself, however, the place was actually part of Nagaland.

When the matter was brought to the attention of the Mokokchung Superintendent of Police, a team visited the spot and rescued the 16-member Assam Police team.
