Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while speaking inside the Assembly on Wednesday said that astronaut Sunita Williams should be conferred with Bharat Ratna for the challenges she faced for the last nine months.
“I am interested in space science and I was following the developments through various sources. I congratulate the team who had rescued the astronauts. I congratulate the team as well as Sunita Williams, I think she should be given Bharat Ratna,” said Mamata.
Earlier this day, taking to X, the West Bengal Chief Minister said, “Welcome Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore back to earth, finally and safely, after so many days. Our daughter of India returns to us, and we are deeply deeply happy and elated. We are profoundly happy for Butch Wilmore also. Hail their courage, hail their return, hail human glory! I congratulate the rescue team for their overwhelming support and success.”
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari slammed the Chief Minister for allegedly mispronouncing Sunita Williams as ‘Sunita Chawla’.
“As a Bengali I am ashamed of how she distorts things. Sometimes she says Rakesh Roshan has been to the moon and now says Sunita Chawla. Such a Chief Minister should be ousted from power,” mentioned Adhikari.
