India Successfully Tests Vertically-Launched Short-Range Surface-To-Air Missile From Odisha Coast (VIDEO)

Bhubaneswar: India’s Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy successfully conducted a flight test of the indigenously developed Vertically-Launched Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VLSRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, off the Odisha coast, on Wednesday.
The missile, launched from a land-based vertical launcher, engaged a high-speed aerial target at close range and low altitude, demonstrating its Near-Boundary-Low Altitude capability, according to the Ministry of Defence.
During the test, the missile exhibited a high turn rate and accurately intercepted and destroyed the target, highlighting its agility, reliability, and precision. The trial was conducted in full combat configuration, with all weapon system components—including the indigenously developed Radio Frequency seeker, Multi-Function Radar, and Weapon Control System—functioning as expected. Flight data from ITR Chandipur’s range of instruments confirmed the system’s performance.
