WhatsApp’s New Multi Account Feature Solves a Major User Hassle—Here’s What It Is and When It’s Coming
WhatsApp is testing a much-awaited multi-account feature on iOS beta, allowing users to switch between multiple profiles on the same device without logging out or using WhatsApp Business. Each account will have its own settings, chat history, and notifications, solving a major hassle for dual-number users.

WhatsApp is working to roll out a much-awaited feature – the ability to switch between multiple accounts on a single phone. This new functionality is currently being tested and has been spotted in WhatsApp beta for iOS 25.9.10.70.
So far, managing two WhatsApp accounts required two devices, WhatsApp Business, or some workarounds. But that’s about to change. With this upcoming feature, users can add and switch between two WhatsApp accounts directly within the main app, according to WABetaInfo.
How will ‘Multiple User Account’ feature work?
The ‘Multiple User Account’ feature will sit inside the Settings tab. Here, users can add a second account by either registering a new number or linking an existing one using a QR code.
Once added, all accounts will show up in a dedicated section with profile names and pictures, making it easy to identify and switch between them.
Each account will also have its own chat history, notification settings, and preferences, allowing users to separate personal and professional conversations.
Switching accounts will also reportedly be a one-tap affair. A small confirmation pop-up will allegendly appear to let you know the switch was successful.
WhatsApp also working on smarter notifications
To make room for ‘Multiple User Accounts’ feature, WhatsApp is also rethinking its notifications strategy. According to WABetaInfo, when you receive a message on a secondary account, WhatsApp will send a specially formatted notification. It’ll show the sender’s name along with the account name, so you’ll know exactly which profile the message belongs to. Furthermore, tapping the notification will directly switch the account and open the chat.
Why is this WhatsApp feature important?
This feature is especially useful for people using eSIMs on iPhones or multiple SIMs on a single phone. With many users storing multiple eSIMs, WhatsApp’s multi-account feature adds serious convenience, letting users manage all their numbers within one app on one phone. As mentioned, this feature is in beta testing for now, but it’s likely to roll out more broadly in the coming weeks.
