Elon Musk Announces Big Tesla Update For India, Nationwide Pre-Orders Now Begin
Tesla has officially enabled car orders across most Indian states via its website. While customers in several regions can now place bookings, priority delivery will be given to Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram. States now eligible include Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and more.

Tesla has taken a significant step towards its India entry, allowing customers in several Indian states to order its vehicles directly through its official website. The company's CEO Elon Musk made this significant announcement through a post on his social media site X. This marks a new phase in Tesla’s expansion, as it prepares to cater to the growing demand for premium electric vehicles in the country.
The company has enabled online bookings across many regions including Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Kerala, Punjab, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chathattisgarh, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and KAshmir, Jharkhand, Kerala, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkin, Tripura, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.
Buyers in these states can now access Tesla’s digital configurator to explore available models, customize their cars, and place an order.
While orders are open widely, Tesla will prioritize deliveries to key metro cities—specifically Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram. These cities are expected to be the first to experience Tesla ownership in India, likely due to better infrastructure and readiness for electric vehicle adoption.

With bookings now open, Indian customers have their first concrete opportunity to own a Tesla directly from the company.
Only the Model Y is currently up for pre-orders, and it starts from Rs. 59.89 lakhs. The high price tag is due to the heavy taxes imposed by the Indian government of fully assembled luxury cars.
