Arsenal on Saturday announced the signing of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres. According to an ESPN report, the Swedish striker is coming in a deal worth €63 million ($74 million) plus €10 million ($11.7 million) in extras.

The Premier League team has signed the 27-year-old to a five-year deal. They have been looking for a new striker for a long time. At his new club, he will wear the number 14 shirt.

Sources told ESPN that the delay was brought on by disagreements over the specifics of performance-related add-ons, which had been the subject of negotiations between Sporting and Arsenal for a while. This summer, Manchester United and Saudi Pro League teams expressed interest in the Sweden international, who comes with a stellar reputation.

Gyokeres on joining Arsenal

Viktor Gyokeres admits he cannot wait to experience the feeling of hitting the back of the net in Arsenal colours. Speaking to the club's website he said, “I always want to score,” he said. “To be a part of this club and to score in this kit and with this badge in front of all the supporters, I can't wait. It will be an amazing feeling.

“I started here [in England], it feels like a long time ago. I think I've improved a lot since then. Now I want to prove myself for real and perform together with the team.

“It's a big honour to play for your country, and then to score goals for them is amazing. When I played at Sporting, I scored a few goals in the Champions League so I feel that I can be on that level as well. Now to come here to a club on Arsenal's level, I think it's going to help me perform even better with all the amazing players in this team. I'm really excited to get going.”

Gyokeres football journey so far

Gyokeres scored 54 goals last season in all competitions for Sporting, the most by a player at a top-flight club. In total, he scored 68 league goals in just 66 appearances in Portugal with 39 netted last season alone since joining from Championship side Coventry City in 2023. He also enjoyed spells in English football at Swansea City and Brighton & Hove Albion.
