Veteran New Zealand seamer Tim Southee got a guard of honour from the England cricket team as he walked out to bat for one last time in Test cricket on day three at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. However, Southee managed only a single-figure score and couldn't hit the required two sixes to complete a notable milestone.

With 98 Test sixes under his belt, the right-arm seamer would have become the second New Zealand player after Brendon McCullum and fourth overall to complete a century of maximums had he hit a couple more. However, left-arm spinner Jacob Bethell had him holing out to long-on where Zak Crawley took a simple catch.

Meanwhile, below is the guard of honour provided by the visitors as the 36-year-old made his way out for the final time:

Meanwhile, Hamilton-born seamer landed the first blow on the visitors, getting the better of Ben Duckett, who chopped on to his stumps. Later, Matt Henry dismissed Zak Crawley for the sixth time in as many innings, leaving England reeling at 18-2 in an improbable run-chase of 658.

It was late start on day three, with the Black Caps already in a dominant position after taking a 204-run lead. They maximised their lead to the hilt as Kane Williamson led the way with 156, while Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell and Mitchell Santner also chipped in with crucial contributions.

England, nevertheless, already have an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-Test series.
