The 3rd YAI North East Regatta 2025 concluded today at Umiam Lake, Shillong, wrapping up five days of competitive sailing. The event, which started on May 25th, brought together top sailors from across the North East and other parts of the country.

Organized by the Umiam Sailing Club in association with the Yachting Association of India and supported by Meghalaya Tourism, the regatta showcased the region’s growing interest and talent in sailing sports. Umiam Lake, with its scenic setting and consistent wind conditions, proved to be a fitting venue for the event.
For the first time, the regatta was broadcast live on Sportvot, marking their debut in covering a water sport. The Sportvot team did an excellent job in capturing the action on water and presenting it to viewers across India. Known for covering a range of sports, this was a new challenge for the platform, and they handled it with great professionalism. Their coverage helped bring more visibility to the sport and allowed sailing fans to follow the races in real-time.
The event witnessed exciting competition across multiple sailing categories, with young and experienced sailors displaying high levels of skill and sportsmanship. With good weather throughout and strong support from local authorities and organizers, the regatta was conducted smoothly and successfully. The 3rd edition of the YAI North East Regatta once again proved that the region is fast becoming a hub for sailing in India.
