Ranji Trophy: We took A Chance But Things Didn’t Go Our way: Shardul Thakur
Mumbai all-rounder who scored a fighting fifty and then was useful with the ball also, defends batting first decision

Mumbai all-rounder Shardul Thakur who scored a fighting fifty and then was useful with the ball also, said batting first was a good decision but things didn’t go their way early on.
“There is always moisture at BKC wicket in the first hour and a half. We took our chance but things didn’t go our way. With better application, we could have seen that phase and scored big runs once moisture went away.
However, despite a forgettable batting performance, the hosts are confident to turn things from day two. “We are really happy with the seven wickets we took. The game is evenly poised. We will want to get the remaining three wickets quickly and get a lead of more than 300 runs in the second innings. It will spin from tomorrow evening a little, and from day 3 there will be proper spin,” he said.
On Rohit’s batting approach, Thakur said. “Rohit was playing in his zone, taking his time, keeping things simple. But with a new ball on this wicket, it is just a ball thing (that can get a wicket).
Thakur resurrected Mumbai's innings from 47/7 to 120-all-out with a fighting 51. “I like to bat in difficult situations I take it as a challenge and try to overcome it,” he signed off.
