Venkatesh Iyer and Mitchell Starc emerged as the star performers in Kolkata Knight Riders' 24-run win over Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, May 3.

After posting a total of 169, thanks to a valiant fifty by Venkatesh Iyer (70), KKR bundled out for 145 in 18.5 overs. Suryakumar Yadav's wicket was the turning point of the match as he was looking to chase down the target for the visitors. Suryakumar scored 56 off 35 balls. Tim David tried to put his effort in chasing the target but dismissed for 24 by Starc at crucial juncture.

Mitchell Starc silenced the critics with a brilliant bowling as he picked four wickets while conceding 33 runs in 3.5 overs. Varun Chakravarthy, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine picked two wickets each.

With a win over Mumbai Indians, KKR moved to second on the points table with 14 points after 10 matches. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians are out of the playoffs' race after suffering eighth defeat in IPL 2024.

Mid-innings Report

Kolkata Knight Riders' all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer's shone with a belligerent fifty as the side was bundled out for 169 in 19.5 overs after early collapse in the first innings against Mumbai Indians.

After putting to bat first by Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders lost early wicket in opener Phil Salt for 5 at 7/1. Thereafter, Sunil Narine (8), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (13), skipper Shreyas Iyer (6) and Rinku Singh (9) were dismissed cheaply and the visitors were reduced to 57/5 in 6.1 overs.

Following quick batting collapse, Venkatesh Iyer was joined by Manish Pandey in the middle and resurrected KKR's innings. The pair formed a crucial 83-run partnership before Manish was removed by Hardik Pandya for 42.

After Manish Pandey's dismissal, KKR lost three wickets in Andre Russell, Ramandeep Singh and Mitchell Starc for five wickets and they were 155/9. Thereafter, Venkatesh Iyer added more 15 runs to KKR's total before he was bowled by Jasprit Bumrah for 70.

For Mumbai Indians, Jasprit Bumrah (3/18) and Numan Thusara (3/42) picked three wickets each while skipper Hardik Pandya contributed to the hosts' bowling with 2 scalps.

Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bowl first against hreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders in match 51 of the IPL 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
