The 25-year-old man who saved Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant's life after his car accident in December 2022 is battling for his life. Rajat Kumar tried to end his life. He and his girlfriend reportedly consumed poison. The incident took place in Buchha Basti village in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district on February 9.
Kumar and his 21-year-old girlfriend, Manu Kashyap, consumed poison as their families opposed their relationship, reported NDTV. Kashyap reportedly died during the treatment, while Kumar's condition is in critical condition.
Kumar and his girlfriend's families refused to accept their marriages due to caste differences and arranged their marriages somewhere else, reported the media house. Meanwhile, the girl's mother alleged that Kumar kidnapped her daughter and poisoned her.

Kyumar grabbed the headlines as he along with another local resident saved Pant's life after his Mercedes caught fire following the collision with a divider in December 2022. The near-fatal car accident took place in Uttarakhand's Roorkee. The southpaw was driving from d4elhi to Uttarakhand when the crash took place.
At the time of the accident, Kumar and the other person were working at a nearby factory. They immediately rushed to the spot and pulled Pant out of the burning car. Their swift action saved the cricketer's life and they were widely praised.
