India are searching for their first overseas Test series win in three years when they face off against Sri Lanka in Colombo starting Sunday. Shubman Gill and Co put on a dominant performance in Galle and sealed a 1-0 lead coming into the final game of the tour. However, there is no time to let up for the visitors, given how precariously they are placed in the World Test Championship 2025-27 standings.

India's 165-run win in Galle saw their chances boosted. The two-time finalists now have 64 points, placing them fifth in the WTC points table. Another win in Colombo will see their PCT rise to 57.57, increasing their chances of making the final two. India currently have 53.33. In the three editions of WTC, the top two teams have finished with PCT in excess of 60.

In another incentive, a win over Sri Lanka could see India rise to 4th in the points table. Shubman Gill's side currently trails Bangladesh, who are in action against Australia. The Najmul Hasan Shanto side were bowled out for 64 in their first innings, all but writing them out of the contest.

Bangladesh's PCT currently stands at 66.67, but a defeat would see that drop down to 55.55. Should India win in Colombo, they will surpass that tally. a draw for Banglades or India, will see the standings unchanged and damage their chances of making the final.
