Updates:
With India at 213-9 starring at a follow-on, Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep have managed to help India avoid it with a gritty unbroken 39-run stand on day four of the third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. Even as India are 193 runs in arrears, Australia will have to bat again on day 5 in Brisbane after taking the final wicket.
Australia made a vital strike to remove Nitish Kumar Reddy just before tea as Pat Cummins got the breakthrough to leave India 7 down with nearly 50 still to score to avoid follow-on. Ravindra Jadeja, who shared a two half-century partnerships with KL Rahul (84) and Reddy remains key as India fight tooth and nail to keep the series alive.
The start of the post-lunch session on day four has been delayed at the Gabba as the showers have returned at the Gabba. With KL Rahul perishing for a gritty 84, Australia still require 79 more runs to avoid the follow-on as they are currently 167/6, with Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy out in the middle.
Even as Australia are in pole position after three days into the third Test against India at the Gabba in Brisbane, weather looks to be their biggest obstacle in taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. With 16 more wickets needing to topple India, the hosts know they have their task cut out.
Team India have their task equally cut out as visiting captain Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will have to bat under gloomy conditions. Nevertheless, the tourists will likely be glad if they can escape the Gabba Test with a draw, given it will keep their World Test Championship final chances alive.
