Pune: AAP Slams PMC Over ₹4.3 Crore Allocation For High-Tech E-Toilets | Facebook
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) slammed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday after the latter cleared a ₹4.31 crore plan to construct five air-conditioned (AC) toilets in the city.
Reportedly, the new toilets will include modern features like WiFi, and mobile and laptop charging points. The five planned locations for the toilets and their costs are: Katraj Chowk (₹86.11 lakh), Balewadi (₹86.25 lakh), Shewalwadi Bus Depot (₹86.35 lakh), Pune Railway Station (₹86.08 lakh) and Wagholi (₹86.40 lakh).
Slamming the PMC, AAP said there is a demand for simple and clean toilets, not expensive and flashy ones.
"No demand for AC toilets has been expressed by passengers or organisations, but it is expected that the toilets should be clean, comfortable and in large numbers. Therefore, the AAP demands that the municipal corporation should not build these expensive toilets but should build clean, cheap, and basic facilities in greater numbers in the city," Mukund Kirdat, AAP Maharashtra spokesperson, said in a release.
"It is doubtful whether the Municipal Corporation builds expensive facilities—whether it is a hospital, a school, or toilets—mainly for the convenience of the contractors," he added.
