To tackle rising costs and unnecessary expenditure on marriages, the younger generation is shifting toward registered marriages. In Jalgaon district in 2024, 477 marriages were performed in the marriage registration office, Marriage Registration Officer GP Rathod said while talking to The Free Press Journal.
Young people have a mindset to avoid rising costs and unnecessary expenses in marriages, and many feel that the saved money can be useful to them later. Due to this, there is a growing initiative among youth to get married in the marriage registration office in the presence of a few people, saving the cost of marriage ceremonies and food.

Registered marriages were given priority due to restrictions during the Covid period. Although registration of marriages slowed down afterwards, they are now increasing again.
