Jalgaon: Environment Festival To Bring Citizens Together For A Cleaner, Greener City

Jalgaon: The Jalgaon City Municipal Corporation (JCMC), in association with Nashik-based Hirvankur Sanstha and Jalgaon's Green City Foundation, will organise the Environment Festival 2026 from August 12 to 16. The five-day event aims to raise awareness about environmental conservation, tree plantation and the need to keep the city clean and green.

Mayor Deepmala Kale announced the festival at a press conference and urged citizens, especially young people, to actively participate in the initiative. She said the festival should become a public movement rather than remain limited to an exhibition.

With temperatures rising in the city, Kale stressed the need to increase the city's green cover and ensure that newly planted trees are properly cared for. She appealed to residents to plant and nurture at least one tree and encouraged the youth to take part in the plantation drive.

The festival will be inaugurated on August 12 at 10 am at Nutan Maratha College. A bicycle rally and a Vruksha-Dindi, or tree awareness procession, will be held before the inauguration. The activities will be aimed at spreading awareness about environmental protection among residents.

An environmental exhibition will also be organised during the festival and will remain open to the public from August 12 to 16. Entry will be free for citizens, women and students. Organisers have appealed to schools, colleges and residents to visit the exhibition and participate in the various activities.

Kale said that making Jalgaon cleaner and more attractive would require the involvement of every resident. Referring to Indore's reputation as one of India's cleanest cities, she said Jalgaon could also achieve similar recognition if citizens took responsibility for keeping their homes and surroundings clean.

“The Environment Festival is not just an exhibition but an important movement for environmental conservation. Every citizen must contribute to keeping Jalgaon clean and green,” Kale said.

The press conference was attended by Nilaybabu Jain Shah, head of Hirvankur Foundation, Nashik; Vijaykumar Vani, director of Jalgaon Green City; Nalini Shah and Kanchan Vani, along with JCMC officials and office-bearers.

The organisers said the festival will provide an opportunity for residents and students to learn about environmental protection while encouraging greater participation in tree plantation and cleanliness initiatives across Jalgaon.
