Attention Punekars! PMPML Fare Hike Announced For First Time Since 2014; Base Fare Now ₹10 — Check Full Fare Details

The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced a revised fare structure for passengers traveling across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and PMRDA regions. The aim is to provide affordable and seamless travel options through a simplified fare system and unified passes.

PMPML, which offers low-cost bus services in Pune and surrounding regions, had last increased fares on December 20, 2014, following a government resolution issued on December 20, 2005. The previous structure involved 40 fare stages for distances up to 78 km, with a fare increment every 2 km.

To improve administrative efficiency and passenger convenience, the Maharashtra government issued another resolution on March 31, 2018, revising the fare stages as follows:

• 1 km to 30 km: Fare stages every 5 km (6 stages)

• 30 km to 80 km: Fare stages every 10 km (5 stages)
  This results in a total of 11 fare stages, aimed at standardizing distance-based fares across the network.

The revised system aligns with plans to integrate PMPML and Pune Metro services, promote e-ticketing systems, and ensure compatibility with the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC). The new structure is also expected to make fare understanding easier for commuters and enable more accurate distribution of revenue.

The fare revision has led to changes in daily and monthly passes:

• Unified daily pass for Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal limits: ₹70 (Earlier ₹40 for each area separately)

• Unified monthly pass: ₹1,500 (Earlier ₹900 per area)

For PMRDA region, the daily pass rate has increased from ₹120 to ₹150.
No changes have been made to student passes, senior citizen passes, or monthly passes for PMRDA commuters.

The fare restructuring is part of a broader upgrade plan:

• Purchase of 500 new CNG buses under the PMRDA scheme with an allocated budget of ₹230 crore.

• These buses will be added soon to strengthen public transport in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

• PMPML also aims to reduce operational costs by outsourcing non-core manpower requirements through contractors.

The revised fare and operational plans were approved during the PMPML board meeting held on May 13, 2025. The meeting was attended by officials from the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, the Transport Commissioner’s office, and the Director of CIRT, Bhosari.

The board also extended gratitude to its directors and administrative staff for their cooperation and support. The implementation of these changes will begin shortly to benefit daily commuters and improve the city's public transport infrastructure.
